Beisbol: From the Barrios to the Big Leagues
Museum of Ventura County, 100 East Main Street, Ventura CA
> DETAILS
> HIDE
Beisbol: From the Barrios to the Big Leagues tells the story of the Mexican baseball teams and leagues that were formed in the 1920s and 1930s throughout the Central Coast. Teams like the Oxnard Aces, the Santa Paula Limoneros, the Golden State Dairy Team, and the Camarillo Merchants to name a few, helped to build a community amid the segregated landscape of 1930s California. This exhibit examines the love of the game by Mexican Americans in Ventura County, and how the network of players went beyond camaraderie and leisure time to lasting friendships and success in the big leagues.

Artists featured are: Susan Petty, Hiroko Yoshimoto, Richard Amend, photographers Bill Dewey, John Nichols, and Terri Laine, and poetry by Robert Louis Chianese.

90 minute non-stop laughter. My Son The Waiter, A Jewish Tragedy! is Brad Zimmerman's hysterical and bittersweet tale of his 29 year struggle to "make it" in New York as an actor & comedian, while "temporarily" waiting tables to make a living. His stories about family, career, childhood and a misbegotten love life are as warm and poignant as they are hilarious! "Zimmerman's one-man show is a MUST-SEE. It's hysterical, heartfelt, timely and poignant. I cried, I laughed, I forgot where I parked!" - Brad Garrett    ($49.00 - $59.00)

  By Tom Stoppard
Heroes is a 2005 translation into English and adaptation by Tom Stoppard of the 2003 French play Le Vent Des Peupliers by Gérald Sibleyras. The play is a comedy set in 1959 in a French retirement home for First World War veterans.[1][2] (The literal translation of Le vent des peupliers is "The Wind in the Poplars". During the adaptation into English, there was concern this might cause confusion due to being too close to the popular children's title The Wind in the Willows, so Heroes was agreed as the English title. At the time, Stoppard said, "To tell you the truth, if Charles Wood hadn't written a play called Veterans [in 1972], we would have called it that.")[1]
